From the Author
Picture this: a cool summer night, six guys sitting around a campfire, puffing on cigars, sharing a few bottles of fine Bordeaux, and telling stories of glory days gone by. After sharing dozens of stories (many of which we probably heard before), someone would always bring up “The list”—the skills that men can not survive without. We agreed on most of the skills and fiercely debated the others, without ever reaching unanimity. Does this scene sound familiar? The book’s foundation are my memories of family reunions filled with laughter and camaraderie. It is about the skills I relied on as I progressed through the various stages in my life.
As you read, you will agree with some of the skills, debate others, and possibly wonder why one of your favorite skills was not included. That is okay. The purpose is for you to enjoy the experience of learning these essential skills to shape your life in a positive way. Finally, as an avid movie lover, which I acquired from my father, I end each chapter with a few of my favorite movies that correspond to the respective skill. Some you will recognize and others you might never have heard of. For the movies you haven’t yet watched, go ahead and rent them. You will see why I chose them. Enjoy!
